9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
This is not your usual day wasting program. We live and learn by participating and making choices while out in our community. Every day is filled with community participation, friendships, eating out, and living life to the max.
12:00 - 5:00 PM
This program is a half day of school, and half day of real life practice and learning to prepare for adulthood. Don’t wait until graduation year to expose your young adult to what adult life is like. Starla Center prepares our young adults by exposing them to their community. Making connections and learning to navigate obstacles is key to successful adulthood. Transportation can be arranged if needed.
Before and After Care (Respite)
Whenever you need us!
We are available to provide respite services before and after normal program hours. Please let us know what hours you will need, and we can likely accommodate you.
After School Program
3:30 - 5:00 PM
Our after school program is designed to pick up where the school day leaves off, offering students with unique opportunities to experience the skills required to become successful adults. Starla Center provides students with special needs opportunities to increase their skills while building on their potential. Studies show that students that participate in after school programs have: Higher academic achievement, higher aspirations, improved social competence and improved behavior. Sadly, students with special needs typically hold a position of lower status with their peers. However, when kids participate in after school programs they gain the social skills and confidence that can't be developed anywhere else.
Camps are a great way to stay active and have fun. If you think your son or daughter's special needs will prevent them from participating in camp, it's time to think again. We go out into the community doing different activities every day during summer camp.
Weekend Respite Retreat
Friday 3:00 PM until Sunday 11:00 AM
This program is designed to give a much needed break to the family, and teach the skills necessary to move onto independent living. Living alone is much more complicated than laundry, making beds, and cooking. Experiencing the abstract part of choice and life is key to a purposeful life.
Here are some points of reference to consider:
How will your family member know what kind of roommates they want to live with?
How will they know what kind of staff they like?
How will they know what their rights are, and how to confidently exercise them?
At Starla Center we believe volunteers are the glue that holds a community together. As a volunteer you will connect to your community and make it a better place. Volunteering can benefit you and your family as much as the cause you choose to help. Your time as a volunteer helps you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills. We would love you to join our community! Contact us if you are interested in volunteering at Starla Center.
